Until the Harvest Book Review

Until the Harvest

Until the Harvest is Sarah Loudin Thomas’ second novel and just as good as her first.  Perla and Casewell have been married for over 20 years now and have raised a son, Henry.  This is Henry’s story of sin, grace, and love.

Henry Phillips is a student in college and longs to follow his passion for music.  But his dad insists that he focus on his studies instead.  But when tragedy strikes, Henry begins to spiral out of control, lost in his grief and unable to find his way.

As Henry begins to make one bad choice after another, he meets Mayfair Hoffman, a sweet but strange girl, who seems to have a supernatural ability to heal people but remains ill herself.  And along with Mayfair is her older sister, Margaret, who seems to have an uncanny way of getting under  Henry’s skin – even though she is a wonderful caretaker for his grandmother.

Margaret Hoffman is in need of some saving herself.  Growing up in a loveless home, where she and Mayfair are considered more of a burden to their mother than a blessing, Margaret aches to know that someone loves her unconditionally.  As she begins to spend more time with Henry’s family, Margaret starts to feel that love.  But more importantly, she begins to understand God’s love.

Can two such opposite people find their way to love and grace?  Can broken hearts be mended?  Do seeds planted in youth come to full harvest?

I highly recommend Thomas’ second book.  She  has a wonderful way of giving life to her characters and intertwining their stories with the truths in God’s Word.  She also has wonderful gift of description, making the town and the era of the story seem true-to-life.

If you are looking for a good summer read, then this is the series for you!

About themommyfactor

First of all, I am a child of God. I was blessed to come to know Him as my personal Savior when I was just 5 years old! God has blessed me with a wonderful husband, Jamie, who puts up with all of my crazy ideas; a beautiful daughter, Hannah, who is teaching me how to mother in God's grace; a handsome little boy, Ephraim, who keeps us all laughing; and bossy, sweet-natured Harmony, who is never boring! We are enjoying the ups and downs of being parents and look forward to meeting others who are on the same unpredictable journey of parenthood!
